The Senior Automation Engineer is responsible for the creation, directing, and management of engineering processes and tool sets, including program libraries utilized in water and wastewater process automation solutions. The job responsibilities involve coordinating and integrating various technical activities in automation engineering departments as well as managing and providing engineering design support to the sales team.
Reports To: Operations Manager
Essential Responsibilities:
Planning, organizing, and directing the engineering work, ensuring standards compliance and quality outcomes.
In addition to engineering responsibilities, this position is responsible to indirectly lead the engineering processes and execution methods.
Support the integrated SCADA growth expansion efforts through engineering leadership, training and support to other engineers and staff.
Identify critical technical roadblocks and risks, while providing the resources to navigate through situations.
Coach/mentor other members of the engineering team.
Directly manage the engineering process and the implementation of objectives and overall activities to facilitate standardization of design, execution strategy/methods, and support approaches.
Assist with quantifying project resources and write specialized project proposals.
Design and implement communication network standards for (cellular, RF) for SCADA RTUs.
Develop and maintain template projects for water and wastewater RTUs.
Develop PLC programs for control and data collection.
Develop HMI (Human Machine Interface) applications.
Design control system circuits.
Specify hardware components as needed.
Write Functional Descriptions, Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), and O&M Manuals for Submittal packages as needed.
Create process documentation to comply with internal documentation requirements.
Regularly review and contribute to the training curriculum and process for newly hired Automation Engineers in areas of PLC, HMI, and SCADA programming.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Engineering Technology.
Five or more years of experience in engineering, development, or related roles in the SCADA field with water and wastewater treatment.
Ability to lead technical teams on large and complex projects.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
High level of organizational and time management skills, excellent attention to detail
Experience with Allen-Bradley and Modicon PLC programming, HMI software, and Ignition.
SCADA software a plus
